New Patient Exam & Cleaning
- A New Patient Exam is your first introduction to the dentist. The dentist will initially go through your comprehensive medical history to ensure there are no contraindications to dental treatment. Then the doctor has a thorough look in the mouth, and extraorally the jaw, and neck lymph nodes to check for signs of tooth decay, gum issues and even oral cancer. At this point, x-rays and digital pictures are taken to ensure any possible areas of concern under the gums or between teeth are not missed. Finally, the Dentist will create a personalized treatment plan to address all your needs.
- After your exam is complete, patient’s will have a thorough Cleaning by a provider using instruments specifically designed to remove the plaque and tartar off of your teeth. Plaque is the accumulation of bacteria and its debris that sticks to your teeth, which can lead to Gum Disease and Cavities. They will initially use a Cavitron – a water-pick type of machine – to powerwash all of your teeth as well as stain. Then they use hand instruments to fine detail the rest of your teeth. Finally, they will also floss and polish to give your teeth a smooth and shiny finish. At the end of your appointment, the provider gives you recommendations of how often you should come and book your next appointment for you.
